교육이론의 기저를 형성하는 상이한 인간이해 및 주요한 철학적 관점을 소개하면서 교육의 본질과 목적 그리고 교육적 가치의 역사・문화적 요인들을 논의한다. 다양한 교육사상가와 교육철학을 비교・평가함으로써 교육의 기본적인 문제점들과 그에 대한 해결방안을 모색하며 그에 따른 교육의 이론과 철학의 동향을 연구한다.
교과목해설(영문)
What is education? What are its goals? Why is education of value? Are these questions that can be settled once and for all, or do their answers depend on historical and cultural factors? In an effort to answer these questions, we will study works of philosophers such as Plato, Rousseau and Dewey. In general we will try to accomplish three things in every class meeting: understand the classical texts, become versed in and articulate about current debates in philosophy of education, and practice thinking philosophically.
